Invitation of Allegiance
Teaching Text: Mark 1:1-15
Jesus is the full revelation of God’s desire for humanity.
Jesus was reversing, representing, and perfectly redoing everything that Israel and all of human history had failed to do in the story up to that point.
The Messiah King calls us to turn our allegiance from satan and self to Him as King and Savior.
(1) Realization of sin.
(2) Repentance and public recognition of allegiance.
Luke 3:7–9
Luke 3:10–14
(3) Receive the Spirit (adoption as son/daughters).
(4) Renewal in living (ongoing sanctification and freedom).
(5) Represent the King’s purpose by inviting others to “repent and believe”.
2 Corinthians 5:17–21 “17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away, and see, the new has come! 18 Everything is from God, who has reconciled us to himself through Christ and has given us the ministry of reconciliation. 19 That is, in Christ, God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and he has committed the message of reconciliation to us. 20 Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, since God is making his appeal through us. We plead on Christ’s behalf, “Be reconciled to God.” 21 He made the one who did not know sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”
