Favor in Unfavorable Times Main Idea - God’s wisdom and power are available to us, even when life feels stressful, uncertain, or out of our control. Scripture: Daniel 2:1–24 + James 1:5 🧊 Icebreaker When you’re having a bad day, what’s your go-to: music, food, sleep, gaming, scrolling, talking to someone, being alone, or something else? Leader: Let everyone answer. Keep this one light and fun. There’s no wrong answer. 📖 Read Together James 1:5 “Now if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives to all generously and ungrudgingly, and it will be given to him.” Daniel faced a situation that was completely out of his control. Instead of letting fear control his response, he trusted God, went to people he trusted for prayer, and asked God for wisdom. 💬 Small Group Questions 1. When something stressful happens at school, at home, with friends, on a team, or in a relationship, what’s usually your first reaction? If they need help: Do you shut down? Get angry? Overthink everything? Text someone? Scroll TikTok? Avoid it? Try to fix it yourself? Pray? Talk to a parent or friend? 2. Daniel went to people he trusted and asked them to pray with him. Who are the people in your life you can actually trust when things get hard? What makes someone trustworthy? If they need help: A parent? Best friend? Sibling? Coach? YTH leader? Teacher? Someone who listens without judging? Someone who keeps things private? Someone who actually prays when they say they will? 3. What’s something you’re facing right now where you need God’s wisdom instead of just trying to figure it out on your own? If they need help: A friendship that’s changing? Drama at school? Dating or crushes? Grades? Making a team? Problems at home? Feeling left out? Pressure to fit in? A decision you need to make? Something happening online? Leader: Students don’t have to share details if they don’t want to. 4. What would it look like for you to be a calm, trustworthy person when there’s drama, pressure, gossip, or conflict happening around you? If they need help: Not screenshotting and sharing a private text? Not joining a group chat that’s talking about someone? Keeping something private when a friend trusts you? Walking away from gossip? Praying for someone instead of talking about them? Staying calm when everyone else is freaking out? Going directly to someone instead of talking behind their back? 💭 Something to Think About Pastor talked about finding trusted people you can ask to pray with you. But there’s another side to that: Are you someone your friends can trust? If someone at school, YTH, on your team, or in your friend group tells you something personal and asks you to pray, actually pray for them and keep what they shared safe. Don’t turn someone’s prayer request into gossip. If someone trusts you enough to tell you what they’re going through, honor that trust. Pray for them. Check on them. Be there for them. Be the kind of friend you would want to trust with your own prayers. 🙏 Prayer Ask the group: “Does anyone have something they would like us to pray about this week?” Encourage students to pray for each other instead of the leader doing all the praying. Leader reminder: What students share should be treated with care and kept private, unless someone shares that they are being hurt, might hurt themselves, might hurt someone else, or there is another safety concern that an adult needs to know about.
